I know you stated that you have tried to receive assistance from your state, but I thought I would ask anyway-Have you applied for Medicaid for the disabled child? I am an occupational therapist, and that's what nearly all of my children have. From what I understand, your income status doesn't matter. I do live in Mississippi, though, so that might change things. Just a thought! I will keep all of you in my prayers.blairhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14392789585053289012noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-617807004479237225.post-14115536481570736202009-09-23T21:24:14.142-04:002009-09-23T21:24:14.142-04:00Too cute!

That seems to prompt head lifting in our house. Carver's head still get away from him. As he gets older, he seems to gain a little more control with it. We also try to show him things up a little higher, so he has to look up. His vision is very poor, so we use light up toys most of the time. We got some new switch toys - I'll have to post pictures. He can just press a big red button to activate the toys. It's great and he loves it.23 weekershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05540906877690044733noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-617807004479237225.post-36390250661003908532009-09-10T22:07:28.370-04:002009-09-10T22:07:28.370-04:00I'm happy to hear that Liam is eating better. ...I'm happy to hear that Liam is eating better. I agree that if you can get them to eat enough to gain appropriate weight, then I wouldn't get the tube, either. Heck, Kinnick has a tube and still doesn't weigh 21 lbs. Carver only weighs 22 lbs. They do eat much better when they are more regular. So, maybe you found the wonder drug. We give Carver Miralax daily and that has made a big difference in his eating.23 weekershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05540906877690044733noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-617807004479237225.post-63345587178082814282009-09-10T18:27:31.846-04:002009-09-10T18:27:31.846-04:00I am so glad that you have been able to find peace...I am so glad that you have been able to find peace with your decision! I think you'll be pleased with the results. Maybe not right away, but in time. I don't regret our decision to get the G-tubes. In the beginning, I thought, "What have I done?" Now, I thank God that I have them. Eating is so stressfree now. I know my kids get all of the nutrition they need for good brain development, and nobody can even tell they have it. Jonathan is eating again just started chewing and just LOVES food! He has never pulled the tube out, we had some issues with the growth around his site but easily managed and no longer a problem and his refluxing is not a problem! The best part is you can blend food and give it through the tube, we use only organic foods and with this blended diet it comes to about 39 cals an ounce! Good luck and lots of prayers your way!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03406502264538609059noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-617807004479237225.post-54498953403062359002009-09-04T15:05:50.768-04:002009-09-04T15:05:50.768-04:00Jennifer, I just read the news and wanted you to k...Jennifer, I just read the news and wanted you to know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. Its so incredibly hard as a mother to make these decisions.

I have a feeling that after it is done, you will finally be able to breathe and feel the weight of this lifted. I have always felt that the period of indecision was far worse on me emotionally than when it is all finally behind you. Literally, within minutes of the surgeries being over, I felt better because I could then just concentrate on moving forward.
I think you are doing the right thing, for what its worth. It may be a blessing in disguise, though...just think of the things you'll be able to do with all the time and energy that up til now has been spent trying to get (and keep) food in his belly. Maybe once the urgency of eatting is taken away, and he is allowed to eat what and when he wants, he will learn to enjoy food. Anyways, I hope everything works out with the g-tube and that it proves to be in his best interest.Khttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09434908944998104930noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-617807004479237225.post-7421096368027584232009-09-01T08:55:29.766-04:002009-09-01T08:55:29.766-04:00Jennifer, I know this has been tough for you... Kid's also go in stages with their eating - any toddler does. Maybe it's just a down time. Then again, maybe he's just telling you that it's time to make a change. I do remember a huge difference with Carver once he got his G-tube. I know I've said it before, but I'll say it again. Once he got the G-tube, it was like his little brain came to life. Proper nutrition does make a big difference developmentally. The first few years are critical brain development years. You're not a failure if you go that route - you're simply a loving mother giving her son everything possible to help his succeed in life. I know you'll do what you think is best for Liam, whether you keep working through the current down time or whether you move forward with the G-tube.

Thinking of you while you make such a big decision.

Shanon23 weekershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05540906877690044733noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-617807004479237225.post-44564479337148960682009-08-25T22:06:32.882-04:002009-08-25T22:06:32.882-04:00What a huge decision for you. The parents I work with have dealt with same issues you have with feeding Liam and everyone post g-tube have said they wish they had done it sooner. With a g-tube you can still feed Liam but but he can get his extra calories from tube feeds which will lesson your worries about his intake. Have you increased or changed his reflux meds, our kiddies often require higher dosages to control their reflux. We definitely notice a huge improvement in Elizabeth's eating once we increase her meds when needed.
Keep us posted on your decision.BusyLizzyMomhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09116803603107554804noreply@blogger.com
